"Pottery interests me as an
art form because it nourishes both body and spirit. It has a
connection to everyday sustenance and can be a powerful reminder
of simple, yet vital necessities. Historically, pots have always
served as a medium of self expression, acknowledging that eating
food is a psychological and spiritual experience, transcending
merely the physiological. I work with forms that have a connection
to traditional vessels, but are also challenging to contemporary
sensibilities. I try to choose images which allude to the issue of
interior space and containment and do not intend for my work to be
viewed stripped of this utilitarian focus. Rather, I hope to
emphasize the possibilities that pottery can evoke in health,
well-being and imagination."
